Computers Maintenance
Computers are like anything else man made, it needs care in order to do what it what it is it what was intended to do. However, it seems that whatever we do to them "problems" are bound to happen. In order to minimize these problems, here are few things you could do:
Keep your System Updated
Amongst all the things you can do, this is probably the most important thing you need to do. In the case of Windows oprating systems updates are in three categories:
- Recommended: We recommend that you always allow these updates to install.
- Optional: In most cases these are usually good updates. But remember sometimes after you choose and run a new update, a set of "recommended" updates will be available. It is important to choose these.
- Hardware: We recommend not to install these updates unless your system is having hardware problems and everything else trying to fix them failed.
Antivirus Solution
This is an important component every computer should not be without. Whether commercial or free an antivirus software is necessary and is worth all the trouble going through installing it, updating it, and establishing a well regimented schedule of antivrus scanning and cleaning up your system.
There are several commercial products to choose. Some are slick otherwise are bulky and try to do everything, hence became a "drag." You have to choose the right product for your environment. However for home users, you really do not need to pay for an antivirus. There are several companies that offer their product for free. Three popular products are free.avg.com, www.free-av.com, and www.avast.com.
All these three products, are free. Avast requires a key to use, which is provided free of charge for personal use.
In future posts, we will discuss other measures you need to know about setting up your browsers so as to accept only the "cookies" you need, securing your Java environment, backing up your data, and maintainaining your system healthy through the use of many tools available to you right from your operating system.
